How to Prepare for Your Family Photo Session:
Tips and Tricks to Bring the Fun and Ditch the Stress
What’s meant to be a fun, memorable family adventure can quickly become a stressful without the right plan of attack. We understand how important this experience is to you, so we want to help you get set for success. Below are a few tips to help you prepare for your family photo session:
- Ready, Set, Go!
To be sure that you have your clothing ideas on point, lay out all the outfits together. You can replace outfits and add accessories until you achieve a fresh and exciting look. Check out my guide on What to Wear for Your Family Photos here for some clothing ideas.
- Talk to Your Kids Beforehand
Family photo session prep begins with getting your kids interested and engaged. Explain all of the plans for the day. Show them the outfits you’ve picked out, or let them be involved in choosing clothes. Also, try to emphasize that this is going to be fun, and there are no unrealistic expectations.
- Yes, “Incentives” Work
Sometimes a little bribery is necessary to make sure things go smoothly during your session, and that’s okay with me. To try an extra incentive to keep your kids focused, pick a reward beforehand that you would be comfortable following-through with after the session is over.
- Food and Sleep are Your Best Friends
Full tummies make great smiles. A snack right before, or even on your way, to your photo session is a great idea. Also, make sure everyone gets as much sleep as possible before your family photo session. Your photo session should be scheduled after nap time, not leading up to it.
- Follow Our Lead
We’ve been doing this a long time. We love it when kids get giggly, smile goofy, or show off a little attitude, because we get to capture their true personalities. Trust us and follow our lead. We are here to guide you through the process and make sure it is a memorable experience for all.
