Baxter Preserve — A Hidden Gem in Westchester
I have a new favorite photo location in Westchester County: Baxter Preserve in Katonah. It’s perfect for family photo sessions with it’s combination of trails, forest, and meadows. This gorgeous site is 114 acres in total and has a large 8 acre pond surrounded by easy to walk trails. All gorgeous, all free, all fun for families.
Looking for an experience, not just a photo location
We had such a great time with this family at Baxter in October. In about a 15 minute walk you can get such a variety of different scenery in… The path, the pond, stone walls galore, and a lovely open field that was perfect for blowing bubbles!
For active young families I always want a location that will be interesting to everyone, especially the kiddos. I find if we keep things moving along, there will be less whining and more natural smiles.
Big enough for all horses, dogs, and people to find a special space
The Baxter Preserve is my favorite photo location in Westchester County because it’s big enough for privacy, but small enough to easily walk. The walk around the pond is easy for young or old family members. And, if you’re a horse or dog loving family, you’ll be at home here. I love to shoot families with their fur babies, so please bring Fido along. Although a horse might be too much…
My friend who lives in Katonah keeps her horse in a stable nearby and is lucky enough to ride on this property almost every day, lucky girl! When she suggested that I check this area out for my Westchester clients, I thought it would be overrun with riders. There are horses around, but this location is so big that it’s easy to find some privacy for some special family photo moments.
