Authentic Newborn Photography Includes the Whole Family
Newborn photos with family included cement the strong family bonds
In over 10 years of photography, I’ve found that newborn photos with any or all of the family included in the session are much more meaningful than photographing a newborn alone.

Newborn babies are cute and special. I get it. It’s easy to get photos that show how awesome the newborn is. However, I think that including parents and/or siblings in newborn photo sessions creates more authentic and emotive photos that will resonate as the years go by.
Dads steal the show
Unfortunately, sometimes dads are a little reluctant to get in front of the camera. They’re stuck on the (somewhat outdated) idea that this is all about the gorgeous baby, and he’s there only to lug stuff around.
Well, move over baby, because dad often steals the show in newborn photo sessions. A natural and unposed photo session gives dad the chance to connect with baby and show their loving (and adorable) side.
Given a chance, dads really open up and show such a tender side when they’re with their babies. Showing the special connection between dad and baby will resonate as the years go by. (Even though he’s probably thinking of all the dad jokes he will be telling some day).
The contrast of dad’s big hands with the tiny baby shows the scale of how tiny they are. It will change very quickly in the days and weeks to come!
Newborns are special for siblings, too
Although siblings can sometimes be ambivalent about the new baby, they usually love being included in the newborn photo session. This is a big milestone in their lives, too.
They’re going to love to look at these photos when they’re older and see their place in the family. It will be fun to see how much the siblings and family has changed in the years gone by.
Yes, the newborn may be the reason why families come to me, but what they might not know is that it’s not just about the baby, this is their FAMILY’S story, not just the new beans!
It’s a story of how two people’s lives have come together to create this new, ever changing reality called a family. That they have created a new kind of group. A group that is inseparable, that can’t be broken because an unimaginable kind of love is the glue that is holding it together.
Newborn photos with your family are a way to celebrate your family unit. I look forward to meeting your new little bundle of joy and capturing memories that will last a life time!
